Indianapolis Bus Charter – Largest city in Indiana

Indianapolis is the largest city in the United States state of Indiana. Indianapolis is also the county seat of Marion County. On the West Fork of the White River, Indianapolis is situated in the central part of Indiana. The city has its name derived by combining “Indiana” with “polis”, which is the Greek word for city. In eighteen hundred and twenty, Indianapolis was settled. It was chosen as the state capital five years later. In eighteen hundred and thirty two, Indianapolis was incorporated as a city. In eighteen hundred and thirty eight, it was reincorporated. In eighteen hundred and forty seven, the railroad reached the city. It marked the beginning of the growth of the city. Its industrial expansion was hastened towards the end of the nineteenth century by discovery of natural gas nearby and initiation of the automobile industry. Indianapolis was merged with surrounding Marion County in nineteen hundred and seventy.

Purdue University has its presence in Indianapolis with many units including the Medical Center and the Herron School of Art. In a building erected as a war memorial in Indianapolis is situated the headquarters of the American Legion. The important landmarks in Indianapolis are the state capitol, the state library and its historic building, the home and burial place of James Whitcomb Riley, the home of Benjamin Harrison, a Carmelite monastery, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the famous annual five hundred mile automobile race is conducted. Then, there is the Artsgarden center for the visual and performing arts which was opened in nineteen hundred and ninety five.
