It acts as a center for rebuilding and repairing aircraft. Manufacturing industries of Miami include segments for clothing, transportation equipment, machinery, plastics and electronic equipments. Printing and publishing, fishing and shellfishing form some of the other industries.

Julia convinced New York Financier Henry M. Flagler of Miami’s large potential and persuaded him to extend his Florida East Coast Rail Road to Miami. Following that Flagler dredged Miami Harbor, built the famous Royal Palm Hotel and promoted the area as a winter destination. From as early as nineteen hundred and ten, Miami was a thriving recreational area and continues to be so today also.

Miami is in the list of the leading year round resort centers of the world. An important tourist destination is the island resort of Miami Beach.
