Oakland Bus Charter – Reconstructed after disasters

On the east side of San Francisco Bay, Oakland is situated in the west-central part of the United States state of California. Oakland is the county seat of Alameda County. By establishing the Rancho San Antonio, Don Luis Peralta first settled in the site of Oakland in eighteen hundred and twenty. More people were attracted to the area in the gold rush of eighteen hundred and forty nine. After a ferry service was started to San Francisco in eighteen hundred and fifty one, the city’s population continued to grow. In eighteen hundred and fifty two, Oakland was incorporated as a town. In eighteen hundred and fifty four, it was incorporated as a city. The numerous oak trees found in the area were the inspiration behind the city’s name. In eighteen hundred and sixty nine, Oakland became the western terminus of the Central Pacific Railroad. In eighteen hundred and seventy three, it became the county seat of Alameda County. The city assumed its present size after additional territory was annexed to Oakland in the latter part of the nineteenth century and also in nineteen hundred and ten. The city’s growth was even furthered, with the permanent settling of thousands of people who fled to Oakland in the aftermath of the San Francisco earthquake in nineteen hundred and six. Another factor that propelled the economic development of Oakland was the opening of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in nineteen hundred and thirty six.

Two major disasters struck Oakland. One is the earthquake that struck the San Francisco Bay area on seventeenth of October nineteen hundred and eighty nine, which caused severe damage to Oakland. The death toll of the earthquake was sixty two and it had thousands injured. The other was a wind driven fire in nineteen hundred and ninety one, which devastated the city’s north eastern section. Apart from the reconstruction following these two disasters, in the late twentieth century, there was considerable redevelopment of Oakland’s waterfront area.

Oakland Museum, Chabot Space and Science Center, the Morcom Rose Garden, Jack London Square, and the Cathedral of Christ the Light are some points of interest.
